Nice Vintage Marantz 140 Power Amplifier
Reason For Selling:
To free up space in my home.
Known History:
This amp was a part of my Fathers extensive collection of vintage components from Marantz and Mcintosh.
He was a passionate collector and audiophile.
He purchased it in 2013 and never removed it from the box. (He did that a lot)
In 2018, the sealed box passed to me.
It was finally unpacked on 5/31/21. (Eight years after my Father received it)
During that time is was stored very carefully, climate controlled, no moisture, never dropped the box etc.
The box was finally opened so it could be professionally inspected at Audio Specialties in Portland OR.
I wanted to have the inspection performed so I could describe its condition as accurately as possible. (Dad was the expert, not me)
The results of that inspection are below.
Condition:
*Very clean
*LED lights are deep blue and bright
*Brushed aluminum face plate is excellent overall
*All four face plate corners are straight
*All logos, letters and numbers are intact and look good
*Glass is great, no bubbles, scratches or cracks
*Both meters work
*Cord is in great condition
*Powers right up
The
vintage audio specialist
who inspected it has been servicing Marantz components for 28 years.
He plugged it in, listened to it and looked it over.
The specialist said it worked but needed a professional cleaning to work perfectly.
He found the the output became scratchy when adjusting the right knob but didn't believe there was anything mechanically wrong with it.
He only recommended it be cleaned with Deoxit to remedy this. (he mentioned no issues when adjusting the left gain knob)
That was it.
It is being sold as is and I am leaving any future services up to the buyer.
Worth noting:
-It has some light scratches around the bolts that attach the face plate (see photos)
-The left gain adjustment knob has a tiny mark on it (see photos)
-The bolt on the upper left side of the face plate will not tighten completely and could be replaced but all three other bolts on front fit tight. (Its not visually noticeable and the face plate is snug)
-The speaker terminal jack on the rear works fine but has a bit of movement on the left side (about a ¼ inch of play when pushed) and could be mended with an new bolt and washer, replaced or just left as is.
