    Description

You are bidding on an antique leather over brass inkwell
. The inkwell was purchased at a local auction in Grimsby Ontario for the Bain Family estate. Included with the inkwell is the auction listing as well as a small tag identifying the piece, on the inside lid. The inkwell measures about 2 1/2" square & 2" high. The condition is fair, much of the leather is damaged/missing with wear throughout & tarnish to the brass and some rust to the spring.
This piece originally belonged to the Hon. Thomas Bain (1834-1915). He was first elected to The House of Commons of Canada in 1896 (Wentworth South) & was asked to become the Speaker of the House in 1899, a post he held untill 1900.
